Important Notes Before You Order

Each of my veils is handmade, one by one, by me. That is why they are cherished by so many. They're worth waiting for. Most are in stock and ready to ship right away, but at times I run out and have to sew to order.  Some embroidered designs are also made to order and take time. So ... If you're in a rush, please contact me to see if I can accommodate you.

All mantilla sales are final. No exceptions. If there is a defect, let me know and I'll take care of it. But there are no returns. Why? I need to protect my customers from head lice! Ewwwww! I know! A horrible thought but they're more common than any of us would like to think about. (Read more) It has nothing to do with personal hygiene. It can happen to anyone. BUT ... just to be on the safe side -- no returns. So please look carefully at the measurements and ask questions so we can avoid the issue. Thanks!

About My Veils

I grew up in the pre-Vatican II Church. The use of a head-covering at Mass was the norm. You didn't even think twice about it. The custom was so deeply engrained that you wouldn't dream of entering a Church without something over your head.

On Saturday afternoons everyone went to confession. Every week. It's just what we did. There was no Mass. Women always had at least a little chapel veil with them tucked into their purses, but younger girls sometimes forgot and then there was a panicked hunt for a paper tissue and bobby pins to serve as emergency covering. When I come across a new and interesting lace, my mind races with possibilities. Sometimes these veils are made in very small quantities only because the lace or trim is so expensive and I don't know if I'm the only one who thinks my new design is a great idea -- or if I've lost my mind.

Here is a peek at some of the new designs that feature embroidery directly on the veils.

For a start, a few designs are available on either my basic white or black triangle mantilla.

Each veil is made of point d'espirit lace - which is a fine netting with tiny points - and paired with a wide rose motif lace trim.

These veils drape well and are made with the same attention to detail as you can always expect

Did You Know ...  In TLM circles the common thought is that black veils are reserved for married and and older women. This notion can be traced back to a European custom which dictated that widows should wear black for the months and years following the demise of their husbands.

While black is now a dignified choice for any woman, young or old, married or single, you may be surprised to learn that in Spain and Portugal black veiling is worn even by very young girls. Here are young girls in Seville during Holy Week.

Tie Back - Kerchief Style Chapel Veils - I still have two of the tie back veils that I wore as a child. If you use these for a very small girl, tie under the chin. Women who are new to wearing a veil and who might feel awkward find these to be a good way to transition  into the tradition. Tie in the back under your hair. Peacock Blues and Orchid - This magnificent lace has such interesting colors that are impossible to capture on camera to full advantage.
